Geography

Germany is situated in Central Europe: it has borders with the Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Luxembourg and Switzerland. In addition, it has a coastal frontier with the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The country extends over some 357,021 sq. km.

  • Highest point: Zugspitze 2,963 m
  • Lowest point: Neuendorf bei Wilster -3.54 m
  • Natural resources: coal, lignite, natural gas, iron ore, copper, nickel, uranium, potash, salt, construction materials, timber and arable land
  • Climate: both temperate and marine, with cool winters and summers and an occasional warm mountain wind
  • Main rivers: the Rhine, the Elbe, the Danube, the Oder and the Moselle
