Government

The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy within a parliamentary, democratic system. In practice the country is managed by the government, which can rely on a parliamentary majority. The bicameral Parliament is composed of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. In 1999, the British democracy gained three new seats of power: the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
